I've been running Powerpoint 2003 for several months on a
new computer running Windows XP Home. The computer came
with a pre-installed trial version. Recently I activated
software. Since that time my computer locks up whenever I
run Powerpoint for more than a few minutes.

I ran detect and repair. The computer hard locks,
ctrl+alt+delete won't work. I ran a full virus scan and
came up clean. I setup a default printer. I have applied
all the latest service packs from Microsoft's web site. I
reduced the number of 'undos'.

The computer does not lock up in any other programs (I use
Excel and Word quite a bit).

I've tried the same presentation on another computer and
it works fine.

Disabled hardware aceleration. Checked on HP's site (notebook manufacturer), now new drivers are available. Running ATI mobility radeon 9200. Laptop still locks up after only a few minutes in Powerpoint.

Hm. Trying to think of what might cause this, and I'm not coming up with
much.

Can you pinpoint what you're doing when PPT locks up?

What antivirus program are you using? Can you try disabling it? If it's
Norton Antivirus, you will need to also disable the Office Plug-in. This
page mentions a different version of PPT/Office, but the disabling
information is valid for 2003 as well.
