Using Powerpoint 2003 when i try and go to format, slide design powerpoint
stops responding and i have to close it down with task manager.

any clues why?

Not off the top of my head, but lets do something first...

Apply all the Windows updates, then apply all the Office updates. Try it
again. This sounds like something that might have been resolved in on of
the SP's.

installed updates, and also office sp3. still doing the same. also, before i
tried this i uninstalled office, and reinstalled.

OK, still shooting in the dark here, but ...

.... I would try a detect and repair from the help tab in PowerPoint (to
double check that the PowerPoint program is working correctly).

.... I would also try moving all my POT files out of their default location
(in case one of them has become corrupted and is crashing the system).

Let me know if either of these work.

What local (not networked) printers do you have installed?

Is the CPU busy doing something, or just idle?
