A user has created a PowerPoint presentation on her laptop system. She is using PowerPoint XP and the system is running Windows XP. The presentation contains about 45 slides. Now PowerPoint hangs when she attempts to open the presentation. No error message is displayed but the hourglass continues to be displayed over the application and the application doesn't become active. We have left it in this state for 15+ minutes thinking it could take an exceptionally long time to open the file.

I have duplicated the behavior on another system with PowerPoint XP on a Windows XP system. However, I have successfully opened the file with PowerPoint 97 on a system running Windows XP and on PowerPoint XP on a system running Windows 2000. It appears that the trouble occurs with PowerPoint XP on a Windows XP system. I have searched the Internet and haven't been able to find a solution. Anyone have any ideas?

Thank you

No real solutions I can think of offhand, DuWayne, but if you can open the
file in another version of PPT, it'd be worth making sure that version's got
Allow Fast Saves turned off (Tools, Options, Save tab) then open the
presentation and re-save it under a new name.

That might just clean out whatever goo is clogging XP's gears.
