Hello,

I work with Powerpoint XP, service pack 2 and Windows XP professional
service pack 1 (2002), French version.

When I modify one of my Powerpoint documents, Powerpoint is quickly
blocked : the little book at the bottom of the window (that indicates a
recording?) begins to change its pages and very quickly is blocked. At
this moment I can't do anything and I must kill the process.

This process is growing continually and the processor is 100 % used.

I have the same problem with other versions of this document (lightened
versions with fewer slides).

If I don't modify the document I can work with the document and save it
with another name and other formats but I have the same problem with
that documents.

I don't have the same problem with other documents.

Thanks in advance for your answers,

Richard

http://www.rdpslides.com/pptfaq/FAQ00034.htm might help. I'd suspect the
printer driver.

There are also some issues with the French AutoCorrect tools which cause
crashes. Maybe see if turning off the spell check helps.

Thanks a lot.

I have turned off the spell check and it works. I have now to find the
word (or other thing?) of the document which is the cause of the problem
in order to turn off anew the spell check. Do you have any reference
about this problem and how to repair the document?

Here's what John Langhans posted about this problem a couple of months
ago, Richard:

The short term workaround is to turn off the option to "Check spelling
while typing" in the Tools -> Options dialog.

The longer term solution is to install the Office 2002 Service Pack 2
which
contains updates to the French proofing tools which resolves some of the
known problems.

If you continue to have problems when background spell checking is
turned
on you can keep it turned off until the next service pack is available
or
you can contact Microsoft Product Support Services about various French
proofing tools hotfixes that have been released since Service Pack 2 to
see
which one(s) might be appropriate for you to try.

Since you already have SP-2, you should contact MS Product Support and
ask about hotfixes. You'll have to give your credit card number to get
through on the phone, but you shouldn't be charged for the support
incident. (Well, don't go asking the MS tech to fix other stuff on your
system, and you shouldn't be charged, anyway.)
