I have set the default file location to My document.

For some reason when I try to save a ppt, it automatically defaults to “C:\Documents and Settings\hata\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files\OLK3Eâ€, but yet the default is set for “C:\Documents and Settings\hata\My Documents\â€.

When opening, I can’t remember exactly what it said, but it looked for a Marketing something, and then I would have a choice to “Open Locallyâ€, then I would get to where I wanted. But now I don’t get past the first step when opening.

So what i want is wherever i open or save a file in Powerpoint, the defaut folder is My Doucument. Anyonce can help?

That sounds like the default path for attached files in Outlook or Outlook
Express. Not much you can do about that. As soon as you open your
attachment and do a "File", "Save as", the default directory is the one you
mentioned. You must click the "Save in" dropdown and change it. If you
received a presentation that was based on a particular template that you
didn't have, you might get the message you are seeing. Not sure though.

You might try clicking the "File" menu in Outlook (Express) and clicking
"Save Attachment", save it, then open it through PowerPoint (which will
default to your "My Documents" folder).

Bill,

Many thanks for your explain and help!

I can understand the problem on saving. But I need to be able to open files from PowerPoint. My computer when you Click on Start has a number of icons to shortcut to the program I want. One is for PowerPoint. I click it and it opens OK. Then I do File then Open, and that is where it hangs up on me.

I have also delete the Recent File List from Registry

it is so strange...

thanks again.

Did you open PowerPoint, click "Tools", "Options" and set your save folder
under the "Save" TAB?

yes, i did,

set to

C:\Documents and Settings\hata\My Documents
but why it is hang when I do File then Open.. thank you

I can only think of a couple of things:

1. Do you have your File Open window set to view Previews"? If so, it might
be that the very first presentation in your main folder is quite large or
possibly corrupted and PowerPoint is trying to generate the preview for it
and can't.

2. You might be having problems with temp file generation form PowerPoint
locking up which makes it more likely to lock up. You can open up My
Computer, right-click on your "C" drive, select "Properties:, then click the
"Disk Cleanup" button and clean off all of your temporary files. Then
restart your computer and try again.

If neither of these work, holler back. Maybe someone else will pipe in with
a solution.

Bill,

i have no idea of this setting "File Open window set to view Previews", how to disable it?
thanks

Try this

From the tools option area change your default location to C
Save and close everything. Close everything you have open and turn off you computer completely. Wait 30 seconds and turn it back on. Now check to see if powerpoint has changed the open location. If this works something is wrong with your path. Now change it to C:\documents and settings and try it again. if this works keep going

You might also try running a scan disk to make sure your filing system is not corrupted

When you click "File", "Open" and the open dialog box comes up, do you see a
preview of the presentation to the right when you select a presentation? If
so, there is an icon on the top of the dialog box next to "Tools". Click
the arrow and select "List" or "Details" and see if this fixes things.

Up to now, I have completed the following test for the issue.
1. Disk Clean via Disk Cleanup Utility.
2. Delete the Recent File list in Registry.
3. Create new folder as default File Location.
4. Restore the PowerPoint Setting in Registry

what can i do more in this case? many thanks
