Hi:

When I create a chart in PPT 2000, I can open and edit it as long as I
do not go to another slide.

But once I move to the next slide, I can't come back to the chart and
open and edit it. In other words, I can only edit the chart when I
first create it. I can't change it later after I've gone on to
another slide.

Is this the way PPT 2000 runs?

What happens when you go back and try to edit the chart the second time?
Do you get an error message? Does PPT crash? Something else?

I get the same error message when I double click on the graph, or try
opening or editing the chart object.

"The server application, source file, or item can't be found, or
returned an unknown error. You may need to reinstall the server
application."

I'm using Win98 SE on a stand alone computer, and have current
service packs and patches. I'm also using Norton Anti-Virus and
Internet Security. However, I still get the same error message when I
turn the Norton programs off.

PPT does not crash. I just click on the OK button that shows up with
the error message and I can continue on.

Hm. Well at least you can continue working. But no, that shouldn't be
happening.

See if the various things at
http://www.rdpslides.com/pptfaq/FAQ00236.htm help at all. Those "server
application...can't be found" errors have a lot of different causes,
depending on the versions of PPT/Office and Windows.

You might be able to get away with just reregistering Graph. Instrux in
that link above.

Thank you.

PowerPoint and its chart creator is working now 100%.

I went to the MS site and looked at the symptoms for the problem. I
had them all :-(

A few months ago I installed MS Service Packs 2 and 3. As well, I had
Norton Anti-Virus and Norton System Works. I disabled Norton's MS
Office Plug-in, as suggested, and once again, I'm a Power Point Power
Power User.

Thanks again.
