I have a PowerPoint presentation that is giving the error
message "PowerPoint can't access <filename> because the
file name is invalid." when I try to open it, I've tried
renaming the file. I've tried recovering the text in
Word, and I've tried opening it with OpenOffice. Does
anyone have any other suggestions for how I could open
this file?

What's the file named?

It's not a password protected file, is it?

Which version of PPT are you trying to open the presentation with? What
version was it created in?

Was the presentation password protected in a later version of PowerPoint
(2002/2003)? This will give errors if it is later opened in an earlier
version.

It was not password protected and it is being opened on
the same computer it was created on / same version of
powerpoint
