I am having an issue with PowerPoint 2003 Professional. After using
PowerPoint for some time the backspace key will suddenly enter a square in to
the presentation. Other keys will also create strange characters. If I
close PowerPoint and then restart the application everything works as
designed for verying periods of time before reverting back to keystrokes
inserting some thing other than what it is supposed to. My Os is at XP SP2
and offiec is at SP3

Any assistance will be greatly appresiated

OK, yes that is a weird problem.

I would first install all the current Windows and Office upgrades. Then I
would do a full power-down and reboot.

If this does not fix the problem, I would look at the keyboard drivers and
alternate languages as the possible source of the problem.

Bill,

Thanks for the reply to my post, unfortunately I have tried all of your
suggestions prior to making my original post. I have even gone as far as
removing and then re-installing the entire MS Office suite. My original
installation was from a managed application and applied via GPO. When the
problem first surfaced I removed the PC from the OU receiving the managed app
and then manually re-installed the entire MS Office suite. I have many other
PCs using the same installation and none of them have experienced this
problem. All the machines have the same OS load since they are applied from
a standard image.

Thanks

This is a bit old but perhaps it'll lead to something useful:

http://www.pptfaq.com/FAQ00518.htm

The problem it refers to occurs when you dismiss a screensaver by using
Ctrl+Alt+Del
http://support.microsoft.com/?id=821432

If that seems to fit your situation, you might try changing the setup
temporarily not to force login on return from screensaver/sleep.
