Looking to identify the file format of the powerpoint
autoshape. What other program can be used to create them?

Not sure what you mean by "file format" for the autoshape. They are
graphics. If you mean are they vector or bitmap, I believe they are bitmap.
(That comes from how they copy and paste into PaintShopPro, not the most
scientific of tests....)

Other products that can be used to create autoshapes: Word and Excel for
sure. Access, possibly on forms and reports. Don't know about the other
Office products, never tried it. Can, if you want me to. Post back and let
me know.

Hi Mike,

Office does not include a tool for creating your own AutoShapes.

If you (or anyone else reading this message) have a need or desire for
specific, additional autoshapes or a tool for editing/creating your own
autoshapes, don't forget to send your feedback to Microsoft at:

http://register.microsoft.com/mswish/suggestion.asp

As with all product suggestions, it's important that you not just state
your wish but also why it is important to you that your product suggestion
be implemented by Microsoft. Microsoft receives thousands of product
suggestions every day and we read each one but, in any given product
development cycle, there are only sufficient resources to address the ones
that are most important to our customers so take the extra time to state
your case as clearly and completely as possible. Each submission should be
a single suggestion (not a list of suggestions).

Hi Kathryn,

sorry to correct you: AutoShapes are vector graphics (that's why they are
scalable without any problems). You see them as bitmap graphics in
PaintShopPro, because this program can only handle vector graphics in its
own PSP-file-format. But you can copy AutoShapes into Corel Draw or Adobe
Illustrator and get vectors.

Mikeb,

those two programs mentioned could be used to create AutoShape-like vector
images.

Kind regards,
Ute

Thanks Ute. I wasn't sure, that's why I put the caveat I did. I'll store
that away in my little brain of knowledge.:)

AutoShapes are also available in PhotoDraw 2000 (comes with Office 2000
Premium) and (if I remember correctly) in Publisher 2002.

Did you ever find the answer to this question? I am
curious also. For example, take one of the Block arrow
autoshapes. If I want to create an autoshape similar to
that, how is that done? I have never found a real answer
to that question.

There's a whole thread about this, and John Langhans from MS posted that
Office doesn't include a tool to create your own autoshapes. If it's
important to you, please use the link John posted in his reply to submit
this as a feature wish to the PPT product team.

Ute Simon mentioned Corel Draw and Adobe Illustrator as programs which
can create vector graphics similar to autoshapes. Of course, they won't
have that yellow diamond to manipulate the shape within PPT, though.
