I was reading a course outline for an advanced powerpoint training course, and the course covered "using the masking technique to create a path animation" and "understanding frame animations over multiple slides"

I am a software trainer, but I have never heard of either of these animation techniques and I can't find any information on them in help

Does anyone have any idea how to create these animation effects

Thank you

Masking/paths from what I remember is a layering technique, using animations
underneath static forms.

Frame animation // multiple slides. I was not aware this was possible
within PowerPoint unless they are talking about PowerPoint's add-in call
Producer.

Post back if you find out about the second item.

Hi,

The only thing I can think of with frame animation is using a range of
slides to build up some sort of animation. Bit like Bugs Bunny?

Sounds like an old training course (pre powerpoint 2002)

"using the masking technique to create a path animation"

This is creating a shape with a see-thru hole in it. You then get powerpoint
to move an object behind (send to back) the shape. So it appears that the
object is moving along a path (when it's really only showing thru the hole
in the shape). There used to be a template with powerpoint that showed of
this effect. The name of the templates escapes me!

"understanding frame animations over multiple slides"

This is "step frame animation" or "cell frame".
Think back to the "flick books" you used to make. Or how hand drwan cartoons
are made. Frame by Frame. You can fake this in powerpoint by creating a
series of "slides or objects". For slides you have several pages that
automatically advance from frame to frame. To give the appearance of
animation

It's still current for me since I'm stuck with PPT 2000.
The courses mentioned were on the Presentations Magazine
web site a LONG time ago. I remember them and still use
the technique in PPT 2000. Its a bit like still being in
the nickelodeon while the rest of you folks are at the
talkies...

Thank you to everyone for your feedback

I agree that is a bit archaic. It was in a PowerPoint 2002 Advanced course outline that I found on the web yesterday, so I naturally assumed that it had to be something "new" that I didn't know about yet

Thanks again for all of your help

Nicole
