Powerpoint always opens existing presentations as new ones

Hi,
Whenever I open a Powerpoint file using PP2003 (doesn't matter whether it's
on hard drive or network drive) it opens it up as a new file -
"Presentation1", for example. This is highly annoying because whenever I go
to re-save it I have to re-name it. It's especially annoying when it's a
file from a network drive b/c I have to click through multiple layers of file
organization to get to the desired location.

Any way to get around this?
Thanks,
GES

Are you opening from file > open or double clicking an icon?

If the latter right click a ppt icon and see what the default behaviour is
(in bold). If its "new" then there's the problem. Get back if this is the
problem and I'll explain how to fix.

Did that answer the question / help?

Ohhhhhh, you are excellent! Yes, "New" is bolded. If I right click and then
go down to "Open" it opens like a normal file. Any guidance on how to fix
would be appreciated. Thanks for the lightning quick reply!

Wouldn't you just know it. I work for the gov't and I don't have admin
privileges to make that change. But I'm going to contact the help desk right
now so that they make the change for me.

Again, thanks for the great help. You answered my question spot on.
