Powerpoint 97 & XP

I installed Powerpoint 97 on Windows XP pro. It has a serious problem
with fonts. Sone text in an presentation that I made before appears in
the wrong font; then when I click in the text and click on the font
pull-down I always get a fatal Powerpoint error announcement. ("Close &
restrart ppt", it says.)

Questions:
Is it true that '97 doesn't work under XP Pro, or is it just something
about my machine?

If I buy the 97 -> 2003 upgrade, will that fix the problem?

This is false. I run ppt 97 on win xp pro...it works just fine.

It sounds like a font problem.

Try replacing the font before you try to edit the text.

Or try installing the missing font.

Thanks. This was the key clue. Nothing to do with fonts helped, but I
went back to a system restore point skipping over a couple of suspicious
looking events, and now it works.
