I recently created a presentation using PowerPoint 97. My laptop runs Windows
XP Home Edition 2002 (Service Pack 2). The file file worked fine on my
destop. I burned it to a CD for remote presentation. When I tried to open the
file from the CD, I got the following popup message:

"PowerPoint can’t read the outline from [filename without .ppt extension].
No text converter is installed for this file type."

It was rather distressing, as it occurred in the middle of a job interview.
I thought maybe it was because the host system was running PowerPoint 2007,
but I was unable to open the file from the CD using my own laptop and the
source application (PowerPoint 97) I used to create the file.

Any help/suggestions (other than upgrading)?

Thanks in advance.

What is the file extension of the presentation file on the CD? How did you
burn your presentation to the CD?

The file is .ppt on the CD. I burned it using the Windows application ("Write
these files to CD") in the D:/ drive directory pulldown menu ("File"). It
will not open when I move it back to the desktop from the CD (same pop-up
message).

I suppose the ppt is a large file. I would sure like to have a look at it if
it is not sensitive material

The file is only 180 KB on my laptop (but 179 KB on the CD); it is 10 slides
with one small graphic element on the master and one graphic element on one
slide. The background is one color and text is a second color. Very simple
and straightforward. Tell me where to send it if you really want to look at
it.
