Hi, maybe someone can help?

I saved my ppt animation page as htm. Then I tried to
display the animated page on my internet browser. I got
and error message that the browser could not find the
Microsoft PowerPoint Animation Player for ActiveX. I have
looked all over the MS website, no luck. I have the same
problem on a Windows 2000 pc. So, I think it has something
to do with the way I'm trying to convert the ppt to htm.

Help...

I think you need what's called the Animation Run Time, John. That's
really only supposed to be necessary in order to display animations from
PPT 2002 in a browser if you don't have PPT 2002 installed on that
specific machine. Since you mentioned PPT 97, I don't know that this is
*really* what you need, but it won't hurt to try.

Then again, what browser are you using? I sometimes use Netscape 4.61
(!), and it won't display those animations fer nuthin'.

You might also check in the "publish" or "web options" settings when you
do the File/Save as HTML. There are options for including animation and
for various browser compatibility that you might need to explore.

Hi John,

It sounds like you are using the export as PowerPoint Animation feature
available in PowerPoint 95 (after installing the add-in for publishing
animations) or PowerPoint 97 (built in to the HTML wizard).

Since you indicated that you are using PowerPoint 97, look for the folder
PPTAnim in the ValuPack folder on the Office/PowerPoint 97 CD, which
contains the file AXPLAYER.EXE. Simply install the player on your system
and the PowerPoint Animations in your web pages will play. If you are
using PowerPoint 95, you will have to search the web for some other
location which has the AXPLAYER.EXE.

If you want to make sure that you animations will play on other computers
you should place a copy of the player installer (AXPLAYER.EXE) on your web
site with a link allowing others to install it or, if you are fluent in
HTML, you can modify the <OBJECT> tag, in the html files created by the
PowerPoint Animation publishing feature, to include a CODEBASE parameter
that automatically installs (with users permission) the ActiveX control if
it's not already installed on their system.

The player is no longer available for download from Microsoft (which is why
you could not find it) so the link to download the player, that is created
on the "cover" page for your html PowerPoint Animation, will no longer work
since it directs the person viewing to a Microsoft web page which no longer
exists. So you will probably want to fix that link as well to point to the
copy of AXPLAYER.EXE you copied to your web site (as instructed earlier in
this message).
