Hello,

Does anyone knows why a user will be able to open a PowerPoint presentation
done with Office 97 in a Windows 98 environment but the other use in the
Windows 2000 can't???? It freezes the application, uses 99% of the CPU
(problably looping) and task manager can't end the task, denied.

HELP!

Does this happen with all presentations or just one?

It seems its the first time we have had this problem...only with this one
and it gets stuck on page 2 of 37 or so.

Sounds like on the conflicting slide that it might be trying to open a link that
is only available on the Win98 machine. Try opening a new presentation, and then
insert slides from presentation, and select if possible the slides from the
presentation that is giving you the problem. if the slides transfer over, see if
you can open the new presentation

I am supposing you are asking me to do this on the Win 98 machine? I will
do that and see how it behaves but got to go, my day is over (and had a long
one). Thank you for your advices.

Ok so I did try opening a new presentation and tried to insert a slide from
another presentation (the one that is giving me grief!) and nope....it
freezes and I can't even go as far as see any of the slides... but the
funniest this is when it freezes like that, it uses up all my computer
resource 99% of cpu and I can't even abort the program with the Task
Manager, end task on Powerpoint.exe...I really do have to reboot each time.

I thank you for the time you take to answer my questions!

Apparently you can still open it on the win98SE machine. What you might try is
to delete the slide two from the presentation, save it under a new name, and see
if you can open the new presentation on the 2000 system.

I would not mind having a look at it, if that is at all possible. Depending on
filesize of course and material sensitivity.
