I recently purchased a new computer with Office XP small
buisness which does not have PowerPoint. My old computer
has registered Office97 Pro which has PowerPoint. Can I
install and run the 97 powerpoint on the new XP system.

You would have to read the EULA to make sure, but ISTR that you could run from 1 desktop, and 1 laptop. the only thing is that your missing out on a whole bunch of good stuff in the newer versions of PowerPoint that is not available in the 97 version. Version 2003 will be released next month, might be something to look at.

Well, yeah, you can uninstall PPT from the old computer and it will run
fine on the new one.

But. (There's always a but.) You'd really need to uninstall the entire
Office Suite from the old computer in order for it to be legal, I
believe. Double-check your EULA for Office 97, but I'm pretty sure
you're not supposed to split up the programs in the suite like that,
with part of them on one computer and part of them on another.

ppt 2000 works on xp. Can't hurt to try. Anyway there is a thread called
"new computer" started by somebody named Fred (from yesterday) you
may want to get into for this issue (and info about upgrading)
Cheers

A couple things to consider here.

Office 97 will run on the new computer. The problem is that you never want
to install older versions of Office (or really any program) after you've
installed newer ones. Unless you really hate your hair and want to lose it
all quickly.

That means that you'd have to uninstall Office XP, install Office (or just
PPT) 97, then reinstall Office XP (custom install, make sure you tell it to
keep its paws off older versions of the software or it might decide you
don't need PPT97 any longer. Ooops.)

That assumes -- uh oh -- that you have an Office XP install CD. If it came
with your new computer, chances are that you don't. If that's the case, I
wouldn't install older software - that might trash your XP install and force
you to reload everything from scratch.

If you can hang in there a little longer, 'til around Oct 21, Office 2003
will be out and you'll be able to upgrade your SB edition to one that
includes PPT.

Double check that, though: there are lots of links to Office 2003 info
