Some more information is necessary - MP2 is the music stream inside a video,
MP3 is standalone-music, mpg is video. So: what is not playing? Do these
files play outside Powerpoint?

Everything worked great. I was using office 2003. Then a PC tech
recommended that I use CCleaner to get rid of all my old, unnecessary files.
I should not have done that! that's when the trouble started.

So, Yes, outside of office, everything plays, runs etc using Windows media
player.. Here is what I have done up till now to try to fix things.

I got office 2007 -- that did not fix anything.
I uninstalled & reinstalled Windows Media player 11
I uninstalled and reinstalled All-in-one codec

I uninstalled office 2003 & then had to reinstall the dictionary for it
because Office 2007 only comes with a French dictionary!

That's where I am now.

And I am still there that I don't know what you want to play: MP3 (music) or
mpeg (film). In case you want to play videos (mpeg): you have probably
deleted some codecs that are needed to show this video. You have to look up
which codec was used to compress the videos, search the internet for them
and reinstall them.

I am unclear as to what your point of "And I am still there that I don't
know what you want to play: MP3 (music) or mpeg (film)" means. My
PowerPoints are multimedia and combine text, pictures (jpg), music (mpg) and
video (mpeg). sorry if I was not clear.

I have seemingly taken care of the problem by downloading as many codec's as
possible. I still have not learned from this site WHICH ones I should have
been looking for. I also was hoping to learn HOW to know which codes are not
working. I also downloaded and installed DivX. All of that seemed to bring
me back to speed.

Thanks for your efforts.

Sorry, it was not clear from your original posting if music (mp3) is not
playing or videos (mpeg) or music inside a video (mp2).
I have seemingly taken care of the problem by downloading as many codec's
as possible.

That's not advisable. The codecs may disturb each other and overwrite the
registry. It's better to install only the codecs which are really needed.

If your problem is with video, you need to install a program that can show
you the codecs for each video. GSpot is one (as there seems to be no
originial website in the moment, it's better to search Google for the
program). There you can see the codec which was used for this video and if
this codec is available on your computer.
