Hi - while following an earlier thread about protecting
presentations, I tried the procedure at this webpage:

http://www.indezine.com/products/powerpoint/pp2003/ppt2exe
..html

I got the procedure to work (I'm using XP and PPT 2003).
However, what I would really like to do is force the
viewer to type in a password before the presentation
starts.

When I recreated the process as outlined on the webpage,
and included a password option in the "Package for CD"
step, the end result was that the procedure did not
work. The executable was created as before, but the
presentation did not play at all.

Can anyone help? Thanks in advance. This board is the
BEST.

If you are going to use Package for CD, then don't use the EXE procedure. Just
assign a "Modify" password to the presentation and pack it with Package for CD.
The presentation will play just fine from the CD because it is playing in the
Viewer and the Viewer always opens in Read Only mode (the Viewer doesn't allow
editing). However, if the user trys to open the presentation in PowerPoint and
doesn't have the password, it will open in Read Only mode and they will not be
able to make changes to it.

Hi - thanks for the info. I have tried both methods, and
they both have merit. I love the password protection
offered by just using the Package for CD function. And I
love the "cleanness" of the PPT-to-EXE function, where
the recipient only receives the single file and doesn't
have the opportunity to open a PPT file, even if read-
only.

Maybe what I'm looking for is a totally different
animal. So here's my next question. Is there a way that
I can do the following:

1. create a CD that auto starts with the PPT
presentation, with a password required

2. include other files on the CD, which can be auto-
installed or quasi-auto-installed.

Hope this makes sense, and thanks again for any help.

1. Assign an "Open" password to the presentation and then use Package for CD.
The autorun CD will open the Viewer, but the Viewer will ask the user for a
password before it will open the presentation. If the user doesn't have or
know the password, the Viewer will not open it.

2. You can use Package to Folder and then modify the contents of the folder to
add any other files you want. You'll have to figure out how they are run
(probably not automatically).

thanks
