Some presentations with sounds are reproduced while others that also have
sounds do not play the sounds.

I use Windows XP Home and PowerPoint 2003.

Any suggestions?

Hi John - No, these are not presentation I put together. I receive these
files via e-mails. They have been put together by others. Some are
professional appearing presentations.

I can always open the .pps files and watch the slides with no sound. Some,
of course, are replayed with sounds and automatic progression through the
files.

Thanks,

Pedro

It's quite possible then that the sound ins not embedded but linked and you
have not been sent the sound file.

To check open powerpoint. File > Open > the pps which will open in edit
mode. Right click on the speaker icon for the sound and in Edit Sound Object
check to see whether it says "Contained in presentation" or gives a path to
the sound. If you have 2007 instead of right click, select the sound icon and

John - I followed up on your suggestions. I opened the file in edit right
click the sound icon but it didn't give me the anticipated message. It did
give the option to play the music and no sound was heard.

I tried another following the same procedure and here I couldn't find the
iconand the song did not play. I tried a third and again I could not locate
the icon but the music played when I played the slide-show.

It's a mystery.
