I have PowerPoint 2002 on my desktop and have to do a
presentation saved on a disk using this program. I have to
use my disk from the 2002 program on a laptop that has
PowerPoint 97. Will this work or will I encounter
problems?? Thanks

"Know before you show." Play it on the 97 machine and see if it works to
your satisfaction.

You may very well encounter problems due to 2002 having newer features than
97 had. Although the file will open on your 97 machine (unless you made a
password), if you used any new features that 97 did not have, it will not
play as it did in 2002.

For future reference, when building a prez in 2002 knowing you will play it
in 97, turn off all new features. That will help a good deal. Find the
controls to do so in Tools|Options and then in the Edit tab, check the last
three options of stuff you can disable.

Other non-2002/97 issues may exist also like fonts not on the other machine
and sounds or video not playing. Check it first.

Oh, after thought...

If need be, you can take the file you created in 2002 and sort of strip it
of new features incorporated. In Tools|Options, disable the features like I
described earlier. All new animation effects, for example will change to
effects 97 had. From there, you will need to examine the file and see if you
want to change what PowerPoint changed.
