Powerpoint 2002 design templates: apply to selected slides

I'm not able to apply a design template to one slide or a
small set of slides. The only option I get is "Apply to
All Slides." The author of the design template says
everything works fine on their Powerpoints. Any ideas of
what the issue might be?
 
The templates may be PowerPoint 2002. But, is the version of PowerPoint your using 2002 (XP)?

Assuming you're also using PPT 2002, you need to select a slide or set
of slides in the slide pane on the left before clicking on the template
in the pane on the right.
