Does anyone have an idea why PPT 2002 would hang when I
try to edit a slide? I can run a slide show with no
problem. Win XP and Office XP are up to date with service
packs. Also, same presentation can be edited in PPT 2000
with no problems.

Thanx

Is PPT 2000 on the same machine as PPT 2002? Might be something as
simple as a networked printer driver...

See http://www.rdpslides.com/pptfaq/FAQ00034.htm for specifics.

If that's not the issue, I'd suspect video drivers, but since the slide
show is running with no problems, I'd suspect printer drivers first. Or
maybe a toolbar, but let's reserve that for after you try the printer
driver thing.

Thanx for the input...
PPT 2002 and 2000 are not on the same machine. I removed
all print drivers and reinstalled a local driver with no
change.

Well, nuts. I thought that would probably resolve it.

Does the hang happen on all presentations? If you open PPT 2002 to a new
blank presentation, does it hang when you try to edit that?

Just trying to determine if it's something with PPT 2002 itself or if
it's a specific presentation that's having problems.

I can edit a new presentation ok. With that in mind I
also tried same presentation on a different Office XP
machine (PPT 2002) and PPT 2002 hung...! Looks like its a
presentation problem and not PPT. Now after checking
muliple presentations it seems like all presentations from
this machine have the same "not able to edit problem".!?

Good detective work there!

What version of PPT were these presentations created in? I guess what
I'm trying to figure out now is what's going on with the machine
creating problem presentations.

Is there anything unusual or anything linked to those presentations?
(Thinking Excel graphs, multimedia files, stuff like that.)

Think I found the problem...
I created a new presentation by importing from the old one
slide by slide until I could no longer edit, then I
deleted then skipped the offending slide, imported the
rest of the presentation and it worked ok. Since all
presentations on this machine are generally created from
the master, it would explain why they all have the problem.
I will let you know if this is really the problem after
the slide has been recreated from scratch and included in
the presentation.

What exactly are you doing (ie, what are you editing/how editing it) when
PPT2002 hangs?

Can you open the presentation and save as Web Page? If so, do that, then
open the saved web page as though it were a presentation (ie, start PPT, do
File, Open and point to the web page html file)
