Powerpoint 2000 & windows XP Professional

I'm using Powerpoint 2000 in a recently upgraded PC using
win xp pro. When using it on a less poweful PC in win
2000, SELECTING (not the insertion) a pic for insertion
into a slide from a folder of 319 large jpg's, executed
almost instantaneously. However, in the upgraded PC with
xp pro, the same operation takes minutes just to display
the file list. It is unusable. I've tried different
folder views but it didn't help. Any suggestions?
