Powerpoint '07: A word appears in gray before scheduled to appear

Using Powerpoint '07, I have a slide which has several custom animations. A
word that should appear several seconds after the slide starts appears at the
beginning in light gray. Later, when it should appear, the gray turns to the
desired color. What can I do to prevent the word from appearing prematurely?
I have saved the file as Powerpoint '97-2003, but the problem still exists.
Any ideas?

I would name the object using the selection pane on the Home tab. (Home |
Select | Selection Pane)

Then I'd look at the Custom Animation pane. (Animations | Custom Animation)

Is there an extra animation for that object? Can you see where in the
timeline it shows up? Perhaps right-clicking in the Animation pane and
choosing Show Advanced Timeline will help you see what's happening when.

As well as Echo's excellent advice. Did you copy paste the word by any chance
- it will have retained any previous animations.

I'm having this exact same problem. The text was placed into placeholders,
neither the source or the destination were animated before. I even tried
Echo's solution of naming the objects, but I'm still having problems.

What kind of animation is applied to the object/text? If it's a motion path,
remember that a motion path does not equal an entrance animation, so you
must add an "appear" or whatever at the beginning of the motion path
animation if you need the object to appear just before it animates.

Does yours also appear light grey at the beginning, as the original poster's
did?

Does the text have a shadow?

I am having a similar problem. In my case, I created my presentation
in PowerPoint 2004 for Mac OSX, with the included blue "Chute" theme.
On my Mac, the animated text works as I expect it to. Each text
bullet appears after I click, and none of the text is visible in the
background before I tell it to appear. When I open the presentation
in PowerPoint 2007 (on several computers), all of the animated text
appears in a gray color in the background. When I click to advance
the animation, the line of text appears in the intended color. The
same issue occurs when I add a new slide and type in new text.

This flaw occurs on the computer in the presentation room. I don't
want my text to appear in the background before I am ready because the
audience will be straining to read the faded text rather than paying
attention to what I am saying about the current bullet point. Very
distracting. I have checked to see whether the text has shadows, as
was suggested for another user, and there are no shadows. I don't see
another animation or text formatting option that seems relevant. It
appears to be a compatibility issue between PP 2007 and the 2004
themes.

I'd like to keep the current theme, but it looks like my two options
are 1) live with the ugly animation or 2) change to a different
theme. Has anybody found a solution to this problem or a way to edit
the themes directly? Is there a way to create a new theme in 2007
with the same background and color schemes?
