Powering off scanners

I have a UMAX 1220U scanner. I plugged it into a USB port, and XP recognized
it and assigned an XP driver to it.

When I go to Start - Control Panel - Scanners and Cameras and walk through
the wizard, it seems to scan fine.

My question is, how do I turn my scanner off with this driver? Usually, the
UMAX version of the driver comes with a small utility to turn it off to
presever the bulb. I cannot find any way to do this with the XP driver.

Uninstall the scanner. Then Install the UMAX software,

Then connect the scanner and it should install the scanner
with the UMAX drivers and software.

Jim:

This what I prefer to do. The issue I'm running into is that when I bought
the UMAX scanner, Windows XP hadn't been released. I recently visited UMAX's
website and found that UMAX now charges for drivers (a completely seperate
issue that really burns me).

So I'd prefer to use the XP generic scanner software for now if possible.

Does anyone know of a way to turn off a scanner with the drivers provided by
Windows XP?
