Power Users?

What the hell is power users? Did a search and it comes up with nothing. Remember this is for NEW USERS when you reply.
 
Greetings --

"Power Users" is a built-in users group that has, by default, more
privileges than normal users, but not as many privileges as members of
the administrators group. The Power Users group exists in WinNT,
Win2K, and WinXP Pro, but not in WinXP Home.

As I stated in the new response to your original question:

Power Users DOES exist in Windows XP Home It is just well hidden from the
user(as are many functions that are arguably needed in an XP/NTFS
environment.) It is also called "Standard User".

You should be able to see this group membership availability using the
following method:

Start -> RUN
Type in:
control userpasswords2
and click OK.

Find the user in question in the list, click on them once to select them,
click on the properties button, select the Group Membership tab. The top
one is the "Power users group". Also the "Other" area has a pull-down with
even more options.

Hmmmm... Okay, maybe I deal with XP Professional too muych lately. =)

If Bruce says it isn't so, it probably isn't so. I would have that that
the:

Would be the same in Windows XP Home as it was in Pro, but I have no Home PC

Can confuse people with the fact the article supposedly applies to XP Home
edition and mentions the "Power Users" group as something to change.

Then again, another KB Article actually states the same fact Bruce just
did..
"The Power Users group is only available in Windows XP Professional."

So, I concede (again) there is no power users group in Windows XP Home
(freaky as that is) andapologize for the incorrect advice. =)

The differences between Home and Pro can be very confusing.
Unless, like me, you're using Home. Then you're aware of what
you're missing. ;o)

When I first got XP, and started visiting the newsgroups,
I thought the term Power User was one people
applied to themselves. I couldn't believe the questions these
Power Users were asking. :o)

Can't believe my eyes. An apparently knowledgeable XP user made a mistake,
then apologized for his error, like a gentleman should.
The conversation was calm and no one was flamed or told to RTFM, or called a
blithering idiot, by anyone. How refreshing !
