Hello All .
Just today I read a post from someone answering a question. His signature
(?) included a statement that went something like this, and I cant make a
quote.
Those using Administrator accounts to surf the web are either clueless or do
not care about damaging their systems and should be using Power users
accounts.
Well, I'd heard something like that previously , but upon checking in my
users accounts , could only find options for Guest , User or Administrator.
I'm using XPsp1 Home, if that makes any difference and cannot find an option
for " Power User ".
I almost always use the Administrators account to surf , newsgroups, etc.
Since a Users cannot download a program. I tried to download a Virus program
and was refused that option in my User account.
So , my question is , are "Power Users Accounts" available in XP Home and
if so , what is the procedure to get same.

Mad Max

I think Power Users is only available on the PRO version.
I don't see in on the home edition.

Thank you David,
I'll give it a shot. Problem is that I'm getting so much on this computer
that I can't keep up with it. Might be easier if I knew what the HE__ I'm
doing.

harry boy,
I know you weren't asking me for advice. If so , God help you .
About the only advice I could give is not to bet on three legged horses.
Seriously, I saw your last post, and it wasn't there. Did I just say I saw
something that wasn't there ? I don't know, ask somebody else, I'm so
confused.

Greetings --

There is no Power Users group on WinXP Home; this is a feature of
WinXP Pro.

Bruce,
That's what I figured. I respect your advice and always try to heed it.
Did you see David Candys reply on this string ? I'm sure he meant well and
just missed that Im using the Home version.
Thanks again for your help.

Hi, MM,

What on earth would you need that for anyway on your home PC?

Power Users
Members of the Power Users group can create user accounts, but can modify
and delete only those accounts they create. They can create local groups and
remove users from local groups they have created. They can also remove users
from the Power Users, Users, and Guests groups.

They cannot modify the Administrators or Backup Operators groups, nor can
they take ownership of files, back up or restore directories, load or unload
device drivers, or manage the security and auditing logs.

Bad for the old ticker, lad.

Hey, johnf !
Beats me ! Somebody posted with the message I posted about and since I do
care about this machine and ---------whatever ! Just wanted to keep my
hoohaw out of trouble. You know very well that I don't know what 99.99% of
the stuff on this machine is about, so I figured somebody like you would
post and tell me to shut up , sit down and be quiet. Glad to see you are
taking care of business guy.

Hi Jerry,

PowerUser is an option with WinXPhe. If you choose a user, then click on [Properties], you will get a new window with two tabs.
Choose the second tab {Group Membership}. Then chose <Standard> (That is the PowerUser).

Ciao . . .
