I am the only user of my PC.
I always logon as " **** " which is set
to Power User.

For routine tasks such as defrag
and saving a Ghost image file I
logon as Administrator.
This is no real problem as I only do these
tasks once a week.

My question:
How *safe* is it to change my
regular logon from Power User to
Administrator?

I read somewhere that this is not best practice
as it leaves your machine vulnerable
to virus and trojan attacks...?

I am on a cable modem.
I have a firewall and anti-virus protection.

Security is always a balance between safety and convenience. For a home user
with a properly configured firewall, using an antivirus such as Norton that also
scans emails and is kept up to date, and keeps current with critical updates, I
would say that risk is minimal. I personally use my administrator account all
the time at home. I would also suggest that you never use you administrator
password on any account you use on the internet, and in your Local Security
Policy for user rights assignments, remove administrators from access this
computer from the network. Also use a complex password for your administrator
account, as some trojans will attempt a short dictionary attack against the
administrator account. --- Steve
