POWER SURGE ON HUB PORT

Ive never had this before.. anyone know whats wrong????

Oh boy! If you search the web you'll find this problem frequently, but with
no good solutions.

First thing to check, I'm assuming your printer has a separate power
connection? I'm pretty sure this is the case, but I'm mentioning it, just in
case. If your printer was trying to draw power from the USB connection, this
is the error you would get.

All I can tell you is that when I had this problem with an external USB
drive, the drive enclosure was bad. I would try the printer on another
system to see if you get the same error message there. If you do, it's
likely the printer has gone bad.

Is this a notebook or tablet computer? this problem is seen more often
with them than desktop systems.

The port that is being overloaded, at least transiently, is in the
computer. Do you now have more USB devices plugged in than before? If so,
for diagnostic purposes, try unplugging all other devices before plugging
in the printer. Also try plugging in the printer when it is still off.

Possible port failure or printer failure aside, the sure cure is to use a
powered USB hub (sometimes called a 'concentrator') between the printer
and computer. Plug the hub into the computer and the power. Plug the
printer into the hub.

Let us know.

I ran into similar problems with one brand of UPS. It seems that the UPS had
a line filter that caused a small amount of current to flow thru the safety
ground. When external devices were connected or disconnected from A/C with
out connecting them thru the UPS, a voltage differential on the ground
returns would cause such a report form the USB port or hub.
(The UPS Mfr is better known for devices other than computer UPS units.)
