I think that the PC Power and Cooling units are the most reliable and
they make models for almost any requirement. I have one of their power
supplies that is still working fine after 8 years.

That thing is a freakin monster! A bit overkill for the average user, on
power, and price. Looks to be a nice supply though....

Eight years for a power supply sure is a long time. I think I will order
one today. Have you never even replaced fan?

Ya, but you can jump start your car with it too.

Paul, you are out of your mind. 199.00 for a power supply is outrageous

I did say it was a beauty. No mention of practicality :-)

But it will support two 8800GTX in SLI, and a quad core processor.
If you have the money to buy that kind of kit, then $200 for a PSU is
nothing. I've heard of people spending more than $200 on fancy
computer cases. If you buy a $50 motherboard and a Celeron, then
yes, such a supply is out of line.

And I don't think it'll jump start a car :-) The starter on my
car draws more current than that, especially now that it is
-20C outside.

I have not needed to do anything with the power supply. It runs 24x7
and has never given me a minute of trouble. I have had other cheaper
units die within a year so the extra cost up front is easily made up in
a couple of years, along with not having the aggravation of a failure at
an inconvenient time.

Not if the unit lasts 8 to 10 years. I have a 300 Watt unit that I paid
$119.00 for 8 years ago. It still runs 24x7 and has never given me any
problems. Considering a "cheap" power supply costs around $30 and may
last 1 to 2 years I have at least broken even. That does not include
the time and aggravation of replacing one of the "lesser" units. A few
years ago I put it into a computer that took at least 30 minutes to
start if the power was disconnected. After I put in the PC Power and
Cooling power supply it worked flawlessly. I probably spent more time
trying to trouble shoot the problem than I spent on the better power supply.

I have a 450 watt power supply I paid 50 dollars for 5 years ago and
have moved it three times to new systems. It is currently running on a
high end gaming machine. I'll post the specs if anyone is interested.
