I would like to send CDs of photos to members of a senior
group who do not have PPT.

How can I construct a CD that will Autorun, loading both
the Viewer and the PPT presentation?

Thank you for your help.

That link provides info for the old '97 viewer or for a
program you have to purchase. Is there a tutorial for
creating an autorun CD yourself using the newest viewer
(2003)?

Head to http://www.rdpslides.com/pptfaq and search for Autorun CD. You want

Sorry, I haven't gotten around to writing that yet. The past few weeks
have been real energy suckers here.

If you use Google Groups' advanced search, though, you can find a lot of
info about this which has been posted already in this group.
http://groups.google.com/advanced_group_search?hl=en You want to search
newsgroup microsoft.public.powerpoint

Basically, you need to put the 7 (I think it's 7) files which the new
Viewer installs on the CD along with your presentation and any
multimedia files. IIRC, the INF file would be the same -- or at least
very similar -- as with the old Viewer.

Thanks, Echo. I have looked here many times but I've only
seen the posts that refer people to the link mentioned
above. I guess I've missed it. I assumed it would be the
same but was not sure exactly what would go into the .inf
file. (I do have 7 files included in the viewer folder.)

Well, that's part of the info at http://www.echosvoice.com Check the
Autorun CD pages -- I think you want the "do it yourself" page. It
should explain in there what the autorun.INF needs. Just replace the
<whatever-the-name-of-the-ppt-viewer>.EXE file is with
<whatever-the-name-of-the-new-ppt-viewer>.EXE is.

I think that's it, anyway. Heh. I haven't even tried to burn a CD using
the new Viewer recently, and these vague instructions, well, you can see
why I haven't written up the steps yet...

But I just noticed you're using PPT 2003. Why not just use Package for
CD? I'm 99% sure it writes the INF *for* you.

I haven't tried burning a CD using the new viewer yet,
either. I have Ppt 2002, not 2003, and I wasn't even sure
you could autorun a 2002 ppt pres using the new viewer. I
know pack and go doesn't recognize the new viewer but I
never use P & G anyway.

Thanks again.

Ah, gotcha. I misunderstood when you said 2003 below. You were
(correctly) referring to the new Viewer, not your PPT program itself. My
bad.

You are correct about pack and go with PPT 2002 as well. Don't bother
with it.

Anyway, that puts it back to the previous information -- you should be
able to put the new Viewer files and an INF file in the folder with your
presentation and burn all that to a CD.

I just did a quick package to CD with PPT 2003 to see what gets put
there with the new Viewer, and I have the following files in the folder.

autorun.inf
gdiplus.dll
playlist.txt
pptview.exe
ppvwintl.dll
presentation1.ppt
unicows.dll

The autorun.inf file reads like this:

[autorun]
open=pptview.exe /L "playlist.txt"

And since I only have one PPT file, the playlist reads like this:
Presentation1.ppt

Hopefully that will at least get you started.

With AutoRun Wizard you can put the PowerPoint viewer on the CD and tell it
to load your PPT presentation file off the CD.

An alternate way is to create a photo cd, which will rotate through your
photos
There is a detailed FAQ about that is here
