When i set up slide shows, they only run temporarily then, without notice the
show stops and asks do I want to resume the show. Any suggestions?

Hi dturnerrn,

Something else that you are running is grabbing the focus of the computer.
Since PowerPoint requires the undivided attention of the computer, it pauses
the slide show while you attend to this other program. It could be a virus
checker, mail program, or even an add-in within PowerPoint.

First, if you would, try starting PowerPoint in safe mode (hold the CTL key
down while starting it) and see if the focus change still happens. If it
does, then it is probably not one of the add-ins in PowerPoint.

Any application that calls for a pop-up dialog (like Zone Alarm firewall,
Instant Messengers, Notifications) will break PowerPoint's focus and you
will need to manually reset it. You may want to try disconnecting from the
internet (unplug the ethernet cable or disable the WiFi connection) and
manually turning off any virus scanner and firewall programs. Did this stop
the resume behavior? Restart your system before reconnecting to the
internet.

If you are not able to find the program guilty of this, look in the active
processes list of Windows Task Manager (CTL + Alt + Del), but be careful not
to stop any of these from this dialog unless absolutely required.. Many of
these processes are required to run windows, but the guilty program is
probably also listed here. If you can not find the program, post the list
here and we'll make suggestions.

I have been having the exact same problem with Microsoft 2007. In a few days
I'll be doing another ppt presentation and plan to turn off CA Security's
connection to the Internet. I hope this takes care of the problem. Has anyone
had any luck just by doing that? ALso, what is an add-in in PPT? How do you
know if you're running in safe mode? Thanks, Carol Baldwin

ALso, what is an add-in in PPT?

An add-in is a small program that runs within PowerPoint and enhances it in some
way. You may also see them referred to as "plug-ins".

I only have this problem if I'm running on two monitors -- that is, I have
chosen to "extend my desktop" in Windows Display Settings, and I'm running
the presentation in Show View on one monitor and running it in normal
editing view on the other. If I click away from the show presentation to the
normal editing view version, it takes focus away from the show presentation,
and then I'm asked if I want to resume.
