Using MS office XP, latest service pack I experience the
following problem: Inserted objects such as clipart
disappear. I make a new blank slide, insert a clip art
image from the gallery, then make slide 2. When I go back
to slide 1 the image is "gone" because you can't see it. If
you click where the image used to be, the object handles
show up. If you right click on the place where the object
should be and pick "bring to front" the object reappears.
But as soon as you switch to another slide, then switch
back, the problem occurs again, where the object is hidden.
There is no background, no other object in the slide. Has
anyone seen this before, and if so how do I fix it?

Hi,

Could be a number of things. First, you should make sure you have the latest
version of DirectX. That may not help your current problem, but it is a
wise security move. WARNING: If you have Windows 2000, you MUST have all
Service Patches for Win2K in place before doing this (Courtesy of Austin
Myers).

Second, you should try adjusting hardware acceleration:

Third, update your video drivers. They are the interface between you program
and what you see:

Also, try the general troubleshooting material:

"Don't use PowerPoint for anything serious until you've done this":

If that doesn't solve the problem, at least you have narrowed down the
possibilities Please get back to us so we can progress further.

Hi glen, I have been doing some more investigating and I
think I have narrowed the cause down to one of two events.
On the same day I installed Office XP SP2 and then shortly
after, I installed Windows 2000 sp4. Ever since then I have
had the problem. The problem never existed before that.
Thank you for your suggestions. I believe I already have
dirX9. I Will check to see if I can update the video drivers.
