Does anyone know why when I cut and paste into a
powerpoint presentation, SOMETIMES I loose all the
formatting of existing images? It's been going on for a
couple of years now.

What version of PowerPoint are you using and from where (what application)
are you cutting objects?

Thanks very much for trying to help.

I am using Powerpoint 2002, Windows XP and am inserting
mostly jpegs, some gifs, copied from the web and other
sources (even clip art). When I paste, all the other
images that I have moved and configured go back to
their original size and place. But, it doesn't always
happen, just most of the time. I have not been able to
sense a pattern, though.

Oh, I mis-read your post. Go to Tools > AutoCorrect Options > AutoFormat
As You Type and uncheck the last in the list - - "Automatic layout for
inserted objects. I think that'll take care of the issue. That particular
option lets PowerPoint rearrange things for you, which means it re-sizes
things too.

Did you try my suggestion I posted above?
