When attempting to open an org chart in PowerPoint, I get a message that says
can't start the application required to open this object. An error occurred
and this feature is no longer functioning properly, would I like to repair
this feature now. When I say yes, I am greeted with this additional message:
The server app source file or item can't be found or returned an unknown
error. You may need to reinstall the server application. I have removed and
reinstalled office with the Run All From my Computer option and no joy.

If you are trying to open a Powerpoint 2000 file in Powerpoint 2002 or
later, then see http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=290942 "You receive a
'The server application, source file, or item cannot be found' error
message when you attempt to work with an object in Word 2003 or Word 2002".

I am using PP 2K to open the org chart template. Only Office 2K is involved
here. Trying to create a new PP presentation containing an org chart.

Do you have tons of fonts installed in Windows? If yes, then see
http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=238307 "You receive a 'There isn't
enough memory' or 'Can't start the application required to open this
object' error message when you insert an organization chart in a
PowerPoint 2000 slide".

If you are using Symantec/Norton AntiVirus, then try disabling the
Office Plugin that comes with it (but don't disable Norton AutoProtect).
See http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=329820 "How to use Office
programs with the Norton AntiVirus Office plug-in" for more information.
