Hello, New user here, tonight we had quick storm and electric went off and
when rebooted came up in some other language. How do I fix. On different
machine now. Thanks??

Hi,

Different language or a collection of unintelligible symbols? Try hitting F8
at the initial startup and choosing the Last Known Good Configuration from
the menu.

Rick, Thanks for info, you are correst about the symbols. Tried the F8 but a
boot preference came up, no mention of last good configuration? Maybe not
hitting the F8 key at the right time??

You hit it and keep hitiing it just after the system check, AND before
Windows starts.
Incidentally, on my machine it is the "F6" key, try that also.
Good luck with your projects.

You're hitting F8 too soon and getting the boot order menu. Just Esc out
of the boot order menu and then quickly tap-tap-tap F8.

Hello Folks, Well, the good news is that I followed all the instructionas and
did get it to come up to correct screen with the"tap. tap, tap, and hit the
Last Configuation deal and it still came up the same with all the signs and
so forth as Rick mentioned. So now I am back to needing some more
assistance?? Any ideas? I have my CD but I already have the sp2 pack and so
forth and need my files or would it lay over? I am open, will be gone a day
or two so will take any advice. Thanks again to all!! I will advise what
works, when it does??

Hi Dave,

I would try Safe Mode (from that same menu), then once loaded click
start/run and type "sfc /scannow" (just ignore whatever might show up on the
screen) and hit <enter>. The power surge may have corrupted the font files,
and this should detect and replace them. Otherwise, you may need to do a
repair installation as there may also be damage to system files.

Hello Rick, You are up early out there! I may try that, almost 6:00A.M. here
and going to work but may go try that, machine is out in building. Thanks
and I will try to figure out where everything is on that screen because it
all is in that "machine script" or whatever. Thanks. Any secrets to repair
install??

mode was sorta in English, I did the sfc / scannow, did not seemed like it
worked but rebooted and now I understand everything, mabe not understand but
