i am running xp on two laptops, the newer laptop has the battery display and
battery options under the power options in the control panel, and displays
the battery condition and remaining charge in the bottom tool bar, the older
lap top does not have these options. How do I get the new power option
features?

I don't think there is any way to add these details into Windows. Either
the system supports and supplies the information to Windows or it doesn't.
There may be some third party programs available that offer more info on
the battery. The extra programs of this nature that I've seen have been
provided by the laptop manufacturer.

Thanks, but that did not help me, are the power options a windows function,
the program is powercfg.cpl, where do i get the updated version that shows
battery condition?

Power options are integral to the system. The BIOS must provide the
framework. Windows provides a GUI to set user preferences for that
framework.

Basic options are in XP powercfg.cpl. As with all control panel applets,
additional choices are listed if the system supports it or if added by
drivers.

So, what you might do is check with the laptop provider. They may have an
updated BIOS that when install increases functionality in this area. For
most BIOS updates you will find a description at the download site of what
has been added, fixed or improved. Or they may have a supplemental
application available.

It's also possible that the system is old enough that what you're seeing is
a limitation that can't be changed. I hope that's not so and that you find
something to help you out.

I did a quick search on google for "PC program that monitors battery
level." Most of the links were for UPS but there were a few for laptop
batteries. Below is one of the links from that search. I've not tried the
program but wanted to be sure that something was available if you searched
around a bit:

Why did I get "Forbidden. You do not have access on this server." when I
clicked on the link you provided?

Gramma, did you look at the date of the posting?

Please start your own posting and explain your problem and maybe someone
will be able to assist you with up to date information.
