we have 100+ users using laptop's and the default setting
for windows 2000 Power Managent is 5 minutes
for "Portable/Laptop" on the "battery" scheme then the
computer goes to sleep. If there a way of changing that
through group policy? If not what other option do we have
with out giving the users more permissions than needed.

Hi Jacob,

Not sure if this is a workable solution in your environment, but on my Win2000
standalone computer my work around is to grant "Users" Full Control access to the
following registry key, like this:

- Run regedt32.exe
- Navigate to the registry key given below
- On the Security menu, click Permissions
- Grant "Users" Full Control

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\Current Version\Controls Folder\PowerCfg

For information on how "To assign permissions to a registry key", search Registry Editor Help (Regedt32.chm) for words in
double-quotes.
