I activated Remote Connection on a Windows XP machine and am able to
connect to this machine remotely with another Windows XP machine.
That's possible. As long I am online it works.
However, when I disconnect and do not connect for a while the power
options of the remote machine change and the machine goes down after a
while. Afterwards I am not able to connect to the remote machine again
until somebody goes physically to the machine and turns the machine on
again. When the remote machines comes up you can realise that the
power options are changed.

It appears that the machine is either going into Standby or into
Hibernation. Try re-adjusting the Power settings under the control
panel to either disable standby/hibernation, or extend the time until
this happens...

or - Are you having trouble keeping these changes set? I wasn't too
sure when reading your message....

If it's anything like what happens to me:

You set the properties to disable hibernation and standby
while physically at the remote machine.

You log into the remote machine from another machine with
RDS.

The settings for power properties randomly change ONLY
DURING THE PERIOD YOU ARE LOGGED IN REMOTELY. If you walk
away leaving the remote machine connected, the remote
machine can go into standby or hibernation. Bye bye
remote connection.

When you log out and go physically check the power
properties at the remote machine, they are unchanged from
the original settings.

WORKAROUND: Immediately on establishing the remote
connection, open the power properties dialog and if they
have changed, set them back to "never" (hibernate or go to
standby) FROM THE REMOTE MACHINE. Now you can stay
connected all day. If you forget that step, as I do once
in awhile, you can lose the connection until you can get
back to the remote machine and bring it back to life.

John
