Has anyone tried power-line networking?
I need ethernet in a room that wireless won't work and I can't run cat-5
wire to.

I don't recall the name but there was something like that in Best Buy
the last time I visited. Look for the "wireless extender" products as I
recall. About $100 or so.

The Scientific American published a feature article on
this technology in its February 2002 issue under the title
"The Network in Every Room". It contained the names
of a number of companies who where active in this field.
