Can anyone tell me why msdrv.exe is bringing my system
down to a snail's pace by constantly occupying 94-99% of
the cpu, and more importantly how do I STOP IT??

I have Norton Antivirus 2000 and it has up to date virus
definitions so i ran a full system scan and it said that
it found 1 infected file that couldn't be repaired so i
opted to delete it, but i'm still having the same
problem... =o\

I've never used norton, do definitions actually keep comming out after the
end of 2000, didn't you have to buy 2001 ?

Anyway, try the online scan. Thats symantec and norton is their product.

If that doesn't pick it up, perhaps some manual intervention.

Find it on your hard drive(start/search), and check its properties, see if
theres any useful info under the version tab such as the name of the
manufacturer, just to see if it is legit. I can only find a couple of
references on the net that say its a backdoor trojan.

Find where its getting started, run msconfig and look under the startup tab,
if its in there it will show you the registry key its being started under or
the name of the startup folder.

This will allow you to remove it.

If its clever, it will have stored a backup of itself which means it may
eventually reappear, if it is a virus.

Turns out it was installed by a program that i downloaded
from kazaa. I never could get that program to work
correctly, little did i know it was installing a virus.
Thanks for the suggestions, i searched for it and deleted
the files, then deleted all references to it in the
registry.
