Over the past two days, the power in my house has failed twice. The
first time I was unable to reach the XP Pro computer before the power
returned. I did a "scan disk" on "C" and all was well.
The second time, I got to the power strip and shut everything off. Of
course, the power stayed off for over an hour. I did another "scan disk",
and as far as I can tell, everything is working properly.
Where would I find the file fragments, if there are any, on the "C" drive ??
TIA and appreciate all the time everyone spends answering "silly"
questions !!!

look for any files with a .chk extention to see if there were file
fragments.
If your system is working ok, then I doubt if you have anything to worry
about.

Also: I suggest getting a UPS !

I'll second that motion! Not only do they protect you from power outages,
they also protect you from power spikes and brown outs.

Not always; you have to read the specs carefully. Many
UPS's simply monitor power and when it goes away for a
certain length of time switch to the battery before the
computer can notice power is gone (holdover time).
Many have no better surge protection than a power strip
with MOV's on it.
