Ho do I force the power button to work as it is assigned
in the power options? If I browse to the power options
I can see that the power button is assigned for "Shutdown"
function. However, whenever I press the power button
(in start menu, in logon screen etc), the system is switching
to the suspend state. If you just hover the power button,
the hint says "Switching system to low power suspend state".
So how do I force it to work as "Shutdown" and not "Suspend"
button, i.e. make the button assignment in the power options
working. It is annoying to explicitly select "Shutdown" from
the context menu every time I need to power of my PC.

That refers to the hardware's power button not the one in the
UI.

Okay, (I'm a different person, but with the same question) - so how do
you get the 'off' button shown in the UI to actually turn the machine
off, rather than sleep etc?
 
Control Panel/Power Options/Choose what the power button does Left
pane).....

OR
Control Panel/Power Options/Change plan settings (right pane)/Change
advanced power settings/Power buttons and lid/Start menu power button

Thanks Paul. And what is referring to the GUI
power buttons? It is a little confusing that
the mostly used power action is preset to Sleep
rather than Shutdown, is there a way to change
the default behavior?

start > CP > power options > 'change plan settings' on your currently
active power plan > change advanced power settings > power buttons and
lid > start menu power button > ...

plenty of clicks to work through there :)

that should do you tho.

Hence the "OR" --some of the wording/locations may be different for
different Beta/RC and/or RTM builds.
