I just reloaded Windows XP after a HD crash (new HD).
Windows will no longer obey its screen saver and power
saver settings. It returns to the login screen and sits
there forever. Anybody know what is happening?

Solution:

I know what is happening. You should remove XP altogether
and try using Win98SE instead, then your problems will be
resolved. XP is so full of flaws that you can not
possibly fix them all, and should you have to reload,
especially if you have not made yourself a mirror image of
the hard drive after fixing all the errors, you will be
back to square one. Think of this problem please, WinXP
has been released with the "Use Automatic Settings" Box
greyed out in the Device Manager. You will not be able to
uncheck that box, because you have no way of accessing the
greyed out check box and you will not be able to remove
the check box so you can change the conflicts manually
either. Microsoft has not come up with a solution to this
issue either, after nearly a year of working with them
about it. This botched XP big time with this one. Want
to check out my claims, simple, go to the Device Manager
and try looking at the box I mentioned, you will see it is
greyed out. Want to check out Microsoft's Knowledge Base
Articles? Be my guest. Search for Changing Resources in
WinXP. You will see what I mean. They have only changed
this article 3 times, now telling you you can not use one
of their previous solutions, and the first one did not
work in the first place.

Hope this enlightens you to using WinXP. Suggest
searching for a Class Action Lawsuit Organization on the
Web, and then contacting them to file a complaint. This
should get you results. :-)
