Power alarm does not work

I have a Dell Inspiron notebook. The motheroard failed, and Dell replaced it.

That caused the power alarm to stop working.

It just goes till the battery is 100% dead, sounds the alarm and shuts the
computer down immediately. There is no warning.

The alarm settings are correct and unchanged from the way they were before
the motherboard was replaced.

Dell says?

Let Dell replace the board again????

They say I should either re-install Windows or replace the motherboard.
They have no idea which. Not very clueful.

I can do that, but waiting for them to show up is a pain.

I've discovered that it does not shut off when the battery is dead, but when
the critical alarm limit is reached. That sounds like a software/bios
problem doesn't it?

No! Depending on manufacturer you should get a low battery warning followed
by a shut down. Not when the battery goes dead. (Battery doesn't go dead,
just is very weak).
