My OfficeXP suite will no longer allow me to open any of
my Office (PPT, DOC, XLS) files after working on a
suspect PPT file this morning. I now receive an error
message to the effect of "PPT cannot open file of this
type" for all OfficeXP apps when I try to open any Office
files on my PC - including files that I could open as
recently as yesterday.

I have tried the 'Detect and Repair' function to no avail.

Has anyone experienced a similar issue and can you
recommend a solution?

THANKS!!!

Thanks - I tried this before posting to this newsgroup so
I can say that this does not solve my issue.

OK, thanks for letting us know about that.

While it's blessedly rare, if your security settings are set to low (or
medium and you allow it to run) it's possible that a PPT might contain
malicious code. Unfortunately, I don't know of any way of testing this
file here w/o running the risk of trashing my own 'puters. I suspect it'd
be a VERY good idea to move this up the ladder to MS, if you're willing.

How large is the file, and does it contain proprietary info or anything else
you wouldn't feel comfortable releasing?

Hi Steve,

Thanks for getting back to me. The file contents
themselves are company confidential and I am working with
my company support team (i.e. HP) to address this issue.
We have a direct connect with MS and I am sure that they
will report this to MS via their processes.

Mark
