I can not post or reply in this or XP group from my Vista Notebook.

Is there any kind of setting I need to adjust.

No problems posting from my XP Desktop.

How are you posting? Are you using the web interface, or a newsreader such
as Windows Mail?

You'll generally find better results if you use a newsreader. The server
name you need is

msnews.microsoft.com

Just open Windows Mail, go to Tools, Accounts, Add, Newsgroup Account. and
follow the prompts. You do not need a username or password to log on.

Note that you *do not* need to provide your real email address, and it's a
good idea to not do so; this will prevent spammers from harvesting your
email account and filling your inbox.

This service is free and is not dependent on the ISP you use.

Unless you are behind a corporate firewall, DITCH THE WEB INTERFACE!

Yes you do. Windows Mail (which also is a newsreader and does
newsgroups, as Patrick told you) is part of Windows Vista and you have
it.

Then you are missing an awful lot. A Newsreader a) doesn't succumb to the
web interfaces predilection for not being able to reply or getting a blank
notification, b)enables you to search, save, file, etc etc FAR more
efficiently.
 
You're correct. Newsreaders offer the advantages you have listed, but web
interfaces have their advantages, too, such as easier navigation for the
uninitated. I use both. For this group I prefer web-based. And I agree with
you- newbies should familiarize themselves with newsreaders. But, eventually,
the choice is up to the user.

It would appear that most of them are either on Vista Forums or
Vistaheads... and they would appear to be real dummies.

If those two web forums would clear back posts and only show 60 days
worth, there would be less garbage here... but then neither of those
forums would look as busy as they do.
