Hi y'all,

I currently run a dual boot with XP en 5728.
When I reboot from Vista, during the POST it takes about two minuts
before the secondary master (=DVD rom) is detected. When I reboot from
XP there's no probs. This has been occuring ever since 5342.
Besides that, Vista runs fine.

Specs:
775dual880 pro motherboard (AsRock)
1 gig (2x 512)of dual channel RAM
2x IDE HD (primary master and slave)
1X IDE DVD rom (secondary master)

Any ideas anyone?

Since POST runs before your choice of which OS to run, I don't see how the
choice of which OS to run has anything to do with POST.

Seems to me that something changes due to Vista, since it only happens
_after_ a reboot from Vista.
Does Vista address the DVD player different from XP?

When you do a restart from XP does your monitor show 'no video input' or
similar during the process, while the Vista restart doesn't fully power
down?

John Barnes formulated on woensdag :

A restart from XP runs normally. Seems to me that Vista shuts down
properly.
I've just flashed the DVD writer with the latest firmware, still no
joy.

I also have a dual-boot, with XP on one drive and Vista 5600 on another.
Sometimes when I do a restart from Vista, I get a glitch right after
power-up that puts something (I can't quite tell) in a loop. A message is
briefly and repeated flashed on my screen saying something like my screen
resolution is incompatible, or something like that. If I do a hard reset,
the problem goes away. I don't get this restarting from XP.

Following up on your comment, is Vista's restart process different from
XP's? Does it have something to do with not powering everything down?

I have seen that in switching from XP Pro x64 to XP Pro x86, but not the
other way. Never investigated it, though, but it may not be unique to
Vista.
