Use this post to post the issues you see like this one:
Fix the checkpoints issue so we don't have to do registry fixes,
unchecking/checking boxes so Windows Defender doesn't make a checkpoint
every day or even 2+ a day.

Steve, may I recommend that you take a look at the thread I began on
7/22/2006, called 'Switching on RTP again - but how to deal with alerts?' In
that thread I took a lot of trouble to document in great detail some of the
experiments I 'd been trying to stop Defender producing multiple checkpoints,
and some strange interations were found.

The cause of my excessive checkpoints (sometimes as many as 8 per day) is
not the same as Robin's. Mine were being created every time I started up AOL,
because Defender didn't like the behaviour of the AOL driver ATWPKT2. It
allowed it, but created a defender checkpoint on every occurrence. The
'Switching on RTP again' thread documents all the observations I made to
check out how to stop it without abandoning RTP.

mine were created "just because" no rhyme or reason and I do not have aol.
Originally in:
Real Time Protection
Choose if WD should notify you about:
1. Software that has been classified for Risks (I had that checked)
2. Changes made to your computer by softwaree that is allowed to run (I had
this checked too)

I noticed every day it was creating chk points- 2-3 a day- one one
computer, 4 to 5 a day on another
I took it totally off Real Time- no more checkpoints.

Then i followed someone's suggestion in here and only checked # 2.
No more check points on both computers.

Also it is still not classifiying alot of software, like AVG Antivirus
Software and some of Windows own components. When will it start classifying
these? and how will it do this. I am on advanced spynet too if that helps.
