I wonder if anyone can make any sense out of this
occurrence.
This morning while online I noticed a download taking
place. A dialog box saying that MS Antispyware was being
updated with a new software version asked if I wanted to
go ahead, Yes Software installed or words to that effect.
Later I looked to see what changes if any had taken place,
none that I could see so I investigated further and found
the following files had been updated today

24/06/2005 06:59 "10,236" errors.log
24/06/2005 06:59 313 softwareupdates.log
24/06/2005 08:53 "76,321" gcAgentsDataStoreData.gcd
24/06/2005 09:33 "2,201" gcUserData.gcd

I had rebooted
Looking at the files that I could I found

File softwareupdates.log
<SoftwareUpdate uid='15' versioncurrent='1.0.509'
versionupdate='1.0.613' installtype='Patch' status='0'

The version shown for the executive file is still 1.0.509

Running updates again shows all updates & most recent
software installed

Can anyone make head or tail out of this

Albie - I'd recommend that you either wait and see if a further automatic
update is offered, or go to the download site and download the update
directly.

It's a couple of links below: http://www.microsoft.com/spyware/software

I'd say that your log indicates an overloaded server (i.e. the problem's at
Microsoft's end, rather than yours. I've seen the same thing happen myself,
but hadn't looked up the log to see what happened--thanks for the clear
post.

Thanks for that Bill,
I had aready reinstalled & now show the correct version &
expiry date.
My point was really that I had seen the download occuring
on my Dumeter and that the dialog box inicated that all
was well when it obviously wasn't.

I agree about the dialog box text. It lies.

Hi Alby,
I had to do the same thing. As a matter of interest, are
you getting a huge errors log after running MAS? I had
been running MAS for at least a coule of months and found
I had an error log of 3GB. I uninstalled and re-installed
the latest version at the weekend and have found an error
log of over 3MB after running MAS once.
